Creative Coalition Board Members Mary George and Sharon Bailey, and I journeyed over the hill to Carbondale last week for the Colorado Creative Summit, an annual gathering of over 300 creative leaders throughout the state. By our side were three other visionary women artists from our valley: Mary Hockenberry, Susie Kaldis Lowe, and Karen Good.
At the 3-day summit our team communed with other arts leaders, went to workshops to learn about new tools and resources to support our Creative District, heard talks from revolutionaries, toured Carbondale’s amazing studio spaces and galleries….and co-built and burned a giant sculpture effigy in the street! (facilitated by ingenious sparkly leaders of Burning Man).
I also presented a workshop on How to Start an Art Library, sharing the success of Elsewhere Studio’s Community Supported Art Library and other innovative models for art lending with a full room of eager faces.
I returned inspired, fired up, and giddy about stoking new connections and implementing new ideas.
The gathering, organized by the Colorado Creative Industries (who oversees our designation as one of Colorado’s 12 Creative Districts), is a testament to the high level of vision that our state has for the creative industries.
Next year’s Summit will take place in Breckenridge from May 4-5, 2017. Anyone who lives and works in the creative industries in Colorado can attend, and scholarships are available! Mark your calendar now. It’s not to be missed.
